Rear Windows

Just discovered today that the rear windows don't work from their own door switches.   This happens no-matter what position the 'security-switch' is in on the centre console.   However, they operate perfectly from the drivers door, one touch down and up.   Now I know they did work previously because I noticed that when in the dark when the ignition key is in, the rear door switches light-up when the 'security-switch' was positioned in the 'allow' to work mode.   Course now I'm not sure which position that 'security-switch' should be in to allow them to work, in or out?   Any ideas for the problem and the position of the 'security-switch'?

Peter,

Had a similar question on the mailing list recently, I've pasted the question & my answer below (in this case it was the relay).
---------------------
Hello,
Following problem:  all 4 windows can be activated from the drivers door site.
However - rear windows cannot be operated from the rear buttoms.
Changed already that switch in the centre console (which deactivates the rear windows). Switch is okay.
What else can I check ?
Rgds,
Uwe
--------------------
Hi Uwe,
I've just checked the wiring diagrams, they show a relay in the central fusebox but don't give the same ref as the handbook.

Anyway looking at the handbook I pulled R12 (shown as rear door locking) & that gave the same symptoms as you have.
Also fuse 28 does the same but also stops the sunroof working.

So if you don't have a sunroof try F28 then R12.

If you have a sunroof & it works try swapping R12 for one of the others.

R12 didn't appear to affect the locking so I assume it's labelled incorrectly.

The centre console button should be in for the rear windows to work.
It should illuminate when out/off - but mines a fairly dull red light.

Possible a previous owner has unplugged the wires from the switches for child safety reasons not realising the isolator switch in the centre console Huh
Also possible the rear switches have dirty or corroded contacts as they won't get used much Huh

Still haven't had a chance with the rain.   But they did work not so long ago aye weeks, because I saw the lights on and the Gal worked them in the back.

Thanks for all replies.   Problem sorted.   Relay to blame, switched it with the heater-blower relay and it worked.   So, new relay has done the trick.   Just as a note, it was difficult to get the relay out for trying to reach past the wiper-linkage, .......Doh....   so I moved the linkage across using the ignition, and wipers-on.
