Engine dimensions

Hi all,

I am thinking seriously about putting a Scorpio motor and transmission into an old Commer PB camper. I've read all about PATS and the complicated electrical system, and quite like the idea of transferring more or less the entire loom over and making a Commer with modern levels of performance and equipment.

To know whether it's viable I would need to know the physical dimensions of the engines, as they are going in a space designed for a 1.7 litre 4 cylinder. I would keep the aircon compressor but not the power steering pump.

First choice is the BOB 24v V6. How tall, wide and long is a fully dressed engine?
Second choice is the 2.3 DOHC. How big is that?

I've seen a 2.8 in the Commer bay and there looked like loads of room, but if the 24v is appreciably bigger I will have to rethink.

cheers,
Niall

24V is a little wider across the heads than a 12V but not a huge difference.

If I were you I'd forget about transferring"All the Wiring" etc, not only will that be nigh on impossible, you will also transfer all the usual Scorpio electrical problems too  Grin   ...................

You'll end up with a bloody nightmare and giving up on it.

PATS is easy once you get your head round it  Wink

Cheers Dave

Cheers Dave,

And there was me thinking that the multiplex loom would make things nice and easy!

I'd like to keep the climate control, electric windows, central locking including one-shot locking, and retain the electronic gearbox control, and cruise control.

Anyway it's all in the future. I shall ask proper questions once the project starts.
