This is how the PDU (Portable Diadnostic Unit, bit with the screen)  connects to the CD drive/charger
 

 
To connect to the car via the OBD port use the CPU (this bit), the connector leads are all colour coded

Just in case it's of use to anyone.
 
If you’re building a new battery pack the old one has a thermal cut-out wired into it that you should use.
Sub C rechargeable cells fit.
 
The 6 sockets on the PDU use 4 variations of the Neutrik Neutricon plug system.
Plugs used on socket numbers:
1................ 90 degree keyways, male pins
2, 3 & 4....... 180 degree keyways, male pins
5................ 90 degree keyways, female pins
6 .............. 180 degree keyways, female pins
 
Cable sockets are also available for making extension leads.
