Hi I was thinking of buying a 2.9 12v scorpio Is there anything I should check for? What are they like for reliability? and what sort of mpg could I expect? Thanks Andy

MPG wise roughly same as the 24V Its the best of the 2.9 lumps and with its simpler gear box and hardly any electrics they are pretty bullet proof (and have a nicer exhaust note in my opinion lol) check for bad plugs, and as it uses a dizzy, check the cap and rotor. also make sure the cap has the suppressors fitted. They use hydraulic lifters in the the scorpio so no need to adjust the valves, so a tapping engine could just be sorted with a good flush and service other then that they are like any other scorpio

Leaky rocker cover gaskets lets oil on to the exhaust manifold noisy tappets can be down to a worn camshaft , i have seen a couple of 12v cams with very badly worn lobes at the dizzy end . Wiring isnt as bad as other models but it isnt all good
