Revcounter and gearbox

Hi can anyone tell me if the revcounter is connected to the gearbox in any way please?

I ask this as my revcounter has now packed up (and I have tested it) but as a result my gear changes are now very smooth at all speeds. As a result I wondered if I replaced the instrument panel would I get clonky gear changes back.

The signal comes from the alternator on 12V V6 & 2.5 TDi.

From the EDIS on the other models.

Revcounter is back now and the gearbox has changed back to rough gear changes which is odd as we tested the instruments and they all worked apart from the revcounter

Are you getting the O/D light flashing? Only time I got rough gear changes was because computer thought there was a problem with the gearbox so went into LOS mode, for which it does not assist gear changes, which is to say make them smooth.

There is no O/D light flashing but the rough gear changes come and go.

I concur that's more likely than an actual gearbox problem.
