Gearbox ECU

Hi. Could anyone tell me if the auto box on the 2.3 ultima has a seperate ECU and is it easy to change. A last resort to try and solve my ongoing gearbox problem. Thanks

PS: he's right about warming it up then turning it off, then restarting, turning it off takes it out of limp mode.

PPS: the Scorpio's ECU is aka PCM (Powertrain Control Module) so-called because it also controls gear changing via solenoid valves, it also electrically tests all these electrical bits. 'limp mode' is invoked in the event of a problem, in order to prevent further damage to the box. So says owners handbook anyway. I highly suspect changing the ECU module won't make any difference, but might be worth checking its connectors though in case there's an electrical connection issue. (?)
