Mot wednesday,Tyres!

i have checked my tyres on the 2-3. i have 1 new spare one, but 2 dodgy tyres, these 3 are 205X65X15, The problem may be the 2-3 may fail in a major way,but i still have my low miler 2-9, (no mot) which needs 2 tyres, it has two good tyres, So i put the 2 good tyres which are 205X50X16 on the 2-3 so i have 2 different sizes on the 2-3, which i gather not good! if the 2-3 fails i would have to refit the tyres i took off on the 2-9, my thinking is to get two new tyres to match the 2-9s 16inch, i need to put back on the 2-9, getting confused here! if all else fails i will at least have 4 good tyres the same size, which will fit both cars. whichever passes. my question is if the 2-3 passes with 16inch wheels would i have to notify insurance co, they are not 205X165X15, which i believs are standard for the ghia? what i am trying to avoid is getting 1 new tyre for the 2-3 which i may not need! help please, Ro

Does THIS help you. the size of the wheels is NOT an MOT problem as long as they do not foul the body work etc. The mixing of tyre sizes even on the same axle is NOT a good idea although it is quite legal to have different size wheels on both front and back. In fact a lot of modern cars have different size tyres on the front to the back .
