hi guys has any one tried putting a v8 302 engine into a scorpio. im concidering do it but was not sure if it would fit easily. im thinking the main trouble would be the engine mounts and if it would hit the standard scorpio steering rack. any advice

Yea a 302 should go in, you will have to check the gearbox tunnel.will be wide enough for the box

new mounts will have to be made but thats not a major job if you can use a welder

Yeah, you will need the V8 Auto Box and a custom prop too.
If you use a V8 with EECV you should be able to get it to interact succesfully with all the Scorpio's other electronics, without needing to leave the existing ECU in the car, which I'm yet to see done succesfully anyways Wink  ..........................

Make no mistake tho, it will be a good 3 - 4 weeks work to wire it all correctly so everything works as it should Wink

Sounds like an interesting project  Wink
Plenty of people have dropped V8's into Granadas & Sierras and don't forget Ford made the Sierra XR8 for the South African market which I think had a 302 V8  Cool

That's very true, V8's have been put in all sorts, but not with so much electronics (Grannys, Sierras, I even fitted a V8 Chevy in a Fiat 500 LOLOLOL )  Wink

Yes it would be a relatively simple engineering excercise to fit a Carburrettored V8 and Hydraulic Auto gearbox into anythng  Scorpio sized Grin

The problem with doing it to the Scorpio, or indeed any modern car is then the dash clocks don't work, the alarm and PATS don't work, Climate and Fuel Computer don't work, the cruise control don't work etc etc etc, so then you have a pigs ear of a car which does 10 mpg and nothing works right.......................

(I'm not being @rsey BTW, this is meant in the nicest possible way) I love a decent project !! Wink

As the yanks use EECV I suggested it because the Scorpio's PATS, Dash, Cruise, AC etc will recognise EECV so with some careful wiring, it can all be made to work, and should then do better than 10mpg  Grin

My recent projects have given me an in depth understanding of EECV, and once you get to grips with it it's brilliant, far better than any aftermarket management system Wink

But it does entail complex, time consuming wiring, even for some so called "Auto Electricians" Wink

HTH, and lets get it started !!

Cheers Dave

That one must be a Low Compression "Smog" Engine Wink

235 BHP is normal with a very mild "Road" cam, decent compression ratio (around 8.75:1), and a 4 barrel carb on a factory manifold  Grin
As with any V8 it's the huge torque and the glorious noise that makes all the difference  Grin

With a "Rumpy Idle" Cam, decent inlet and 9.5:1 Comp Ratio I've seen them make 400 BHP, huge torque and they pull from 1100 rpm all the way to 7k  Wink

Cheers Dave
