The wire colours in the wiring diagrams are really quite easy to understand they usually use the first and last letters of the wire colour with the / symbol to separate it from another as per the example

I hope this helps explain things a little. the  schematic wiring diagrams are available for download if you require them.

I had guessed that the letters were the colours, but from experience of Ford they do not have a simple correlation between letters and colours. Namely there is no guarentee that Bl is Black and not Blue.

I was wondering whether there was a list of codes and colours.

I work on the basis that the colours are the obvious interpretation of the code until I find different

Thanks for your help

Maybe it's just me but I don't have much trouble interpreting the 2-letter codes, but then I've built electronics stuff for decades and have used very similar 2-letter codes in my own drawings.

Picking any Scorpio diagram at random (central locking) I deduce:

BK = black
BN = brown
RD = red
OG = orange (most likely, got those letters in 'OranGe')
YE = yellow
GN = green
BU = blue
VT = violet

If there's a grey, most likely GR or GY

WH = white

Note correct interpretation of colour codes can be hampered by being too light / too dark /  faded / stained / missed the smaller colour stripe if it's 2-colour wire because it's hidden / difficult to see / whether you are colour blind

Note #2. the colours may also be used to represent numbers, e.g. as in resistor colour codes (stripes on body)

Black = 0; brown = 1; red = 2; orange = 3; yellow = 4; green = 5; blue = 6; violet = 7; grey = 8; white = 9

Thanks Mike H. I will work with this, what about the possibility of getting the complete new or used cable that link the socket from gear box and engine to powertrain control module (PCM)  socket located at the left hand side in the engine under the power steering fluid reservoir(www.fordscorpio.co.uk/faults_wiring.htm)  my cable are damage that i cant even identify colours   Huh
