Broken battery post

Just been working on the car and disconnected the - leads from the post (L shaped post type).

Got it all sorted reconnected the lead but looks like there was a bit of cross threading as it wouldn't stay tight.

Now here is where I should have just thought stuff it.  Leave it until tomorrow. Get another nut and bolt and sort it out after work.
Instead I tried to tighten it a bit more to get to a healthy bit of thread so I could nip out tonight.  I put too much pressure on the spanner and the post snapped on the bottom near the bend upwards.

As there is no  post sticking up now to connect the wires to it looks like my 30 seconds of impatience will cost me a new battery.

As I hate throwing anything away (Yorkshire man) is there any way I could repair the post so I have a spare 12v battery for emergencies?

You can drill the remaining post downwards and use a good thick (not long) self tapper to hold every thing . I have seen it done in the past like that. Just might work for you.

Good Luck.

I've joined a battery post back together with 'Devcon', but I'm not sure where you would get that stuff now.

I repaired the thermostat housing on my MK1 Granada with Devcon steel putty over ten years ago & it's still holding strong.
Got it from a local trade suppliers for £15.00 at the time & it stated for 'industrial use only'.

Still available from Devcon & on Ebay, but not sure it is the same strong stuff as before & it is really expensive now  Roll Eyes
