Swapping Seats And Trim

I would like to swap the seats and trim from a 2.3 Ultima auto petrol estate to my 2 litre 1995 saloon. How difficult is this if indeed it can be done? For example, will the Ultima rear seat fit my car? Everything inside the car looks much the same as mine does but then I am not expert. Grateful for any tips and/or advice. Undecided

From what I understand, the rear seats do not fit exactly from a estate into an saloon and visa versa

The rear seats will not straight swap unless you are prepared for a lot of faffing about.

Why are you swapping the seats? Is the saloon's interior poor?

I have got hold of a 2.3 litre ultima estate offered for spares, with all leather interior in excellent condition. The interior in my 2L 16v is fabric and it seemed an opportunity to consider changing it to leather (assuming of course if it were possible). You might say it is more a project rather than a necessity Wink

If I remember correctly estate and saloon cushion part (wot you sit on) are different sizes or something. The front to back depth is too large, one way around or the other. I only recall from thread(s) of a couple of years ago or so.

It may be the estate one is slightly shorter, so's you'd have a gap at the back, but I'm just going by hazy memory at the mo.

PS: what I remember is someone couldn't hinge theirs up, like it was jammed under the backs, so we were wondering if it had been replaced by the 'long' version previously.

I live in France so the opportunity to get hold of a Scorpio for spares was too good to miss out on. Not many about over here. Getting bulky bits over here would be an expensive job.

As it happens The 2.3 Ultima is in extremely good condition and until recently, was used as the main vehicle by the owner. However, it developed some electrical problems causing the engine to cut out abruptly. The owner has had it looked at but has been unable to find the cause of the problem. It may be that water has gotten into the electrics via the battery shelf - I have seen a couple of references to this on your excellent site.

Apart from my idea swap the interior and simply keeping the car for spares, I am also thinking the car is really too good to scrap. If anyone has any ideas about how to go about tracing the fault, I would be grateful for advice.

Many thanks also for all the comments about the seats which have been very useful. I am making a donation to the fund as a way of saying thank you.

Engine cutting out problem could be due to the insulation on the wiring to the coil packs breaking down and shorting out or possibly coil pack on the way out.
Take the cover off the top of the engine and check out the condition of the insulation on the wiring - coil packs are under there too and easy to swap out.
