Unknown motor bay components

The heater blower control (HBC) module of my 2.3 auto (199 died some time ago. (The type with the big heat sink.) I drilled out the complete electronics, because I intend to build in an own circuitry. This page and the original electrical diagrams are of much help for this project.
However, I now ran into the problem, that the wiring to and from the HBC module does not comply with the original diagrams, because Ford works fitted a parking heater, which is not shown in any diagram, neither by Ford nor by Webasto.
Up to now I treated my brain in vain to understand the wiring. But before I start an intensive investigation, where which cable to the HBC module leads, I would like to know, what these two components in the motor bay are used for.
Both have only two connectors and look like high power resistors. Are they generally fitted?

The top picture looks like an 'add on',can you trace the wires to their termination ? I've had numerous Scorpios but don't recall a similar unit on any of them.

Thanks guys. I think you put me into the right direction.
The round part has printed "Lumatic CRH40" on it. It ssems to be such a resistor.
I tracked the wires and found that they end in this artworklike loom in the orange area.
When diving deeper, I could reed "Webasto" (yellow circle) on this extra fuze box. It contains a 25A, a 15A and a 1A fuze.
So, if the fuze box is for the parking heater, then I think, the two diodes on the left, the two relays and the round low ohmic resistor all belong to an extra control circuit for the parking heater itself and the heater blower. I think this is the circuit, which ensures that the blower does a minimum turn rate, if ignition and power is off.
I have the original Webasto manual. But it does not show such details. So I will have to investigate the circuit more closely to be able to design the HBC module replacement so that it actually works as the original one.

The Webasto website has pictures of the parking heater (never heard of this before, so quite interesting - thanks for starting this!) and the current heaters look quite different.
Had a Daimler 2-1/2 V8 once with a fabric Webasto sunroof. It was very well made. That's definitely not what you have here!

No, it was a 3000,- DM option in Germany. Please have a look on page 4, first section: "Standheizung Thermo Top S (Webasto)..."

Google for 'webasto thermo top'
It is an electric cabin (and engine warm-up) heater. It heats and circulates the coolant. Webasto make it (various models).
This is obviously an option for the continent where they can have much more severe Winters than we do in the UK.

I had the webasto on a BMW 530d. Standard fit from new.
The parked car heater is started by a remote control device and warms the coolant independently from the vehicle's engine.
The vehicle's blower system takes the warm air into the cabin and, at the same time, pre-heats the engine.
Some of the benefits associated with such a system are as follows:
· Warmth and comfort of a pre-heated interior - a centrally heated interior.
· Screen defrost and demist - increase safety with a safer clearer vision through the windscreen at the start of your journey.
· Pre-heated engine - no more cold starts/easier starting.
· A pre-warmed engine - a better engine response from cold.
· Reduced engine wear
· Reduced engine emissions - lower emissions from a preheated engine.
Don't know if these components are for this extra though.
