Remote problem ?
« on: Sep 19th, 2012, 3:37am »

Had a problem with the remote not working a few months ago & fixed it with foil glued to the bottom of the rubber pads.

But over the last couple of weeks, I've been having a problem with the central locking, in that when I press the remote locking button the car won't lock, well not immediately anyway  Roll Eyes

This is the weird bit.....sometimes it will lock immediately & sometimes there is a time delay of up to a couple of minutes after pressing the remote before the car locks  Huh

The unlock & boot unlock work fine & locking the car with the key is fine.

Remote has new batteries & is all programmed in...before you ask  Wink

Any ideas ?

I also tried tin foil which worked well for a while but eventually it became loose and caused intermittent problems.  I then tried Phillip Heap at Ambleside (see previous posts regarding key fobs).  It was excellent service and no problems with my fob since he fitted micro switches.
Cheers,
James

JC.
If you happen to have a spare CCM it may be worthwhile plugging it in as an experiment.

When I tried foil it just fell off after a couple of days so on a tip from a mate took it out and rubbed over the button contact pads with a soft pencil.

That was May I think, still working.

Could be your bits of foil have fallen off so are 'confusing' the fob electronics with spurious contacts (?)

Thanks for the replies guys  Smiley

The foil I glued to the underside of the buttons is still there & making good contact.
Mike, I did try the pencil thing before I did the foil thing, but it didn't seem to work very well. The foil did work very well though  Wink

Gozz, I've not got a spare CCM, although Spikies is but a stones throw from me. Wouldn't a faulty CCM affect the locking of the vehicle with the key though ?  Undecided

Anyway, it's been behaving itself today for the first time in two weeks.....maybe it was gremlins ?....lets wait to see if it will last  Wink

If it happens again, maybe I'll just 'ititwivanammer'  Grin

JC. You could consider sending it to Phillip Heap as James suggests. IF it is U/S he'll soon tell you and so far his service and advice has been first class. Wink  Hope 'The Boss' and Junior are keeping you on your toes!. Wink Mike

Forgot to mention whenever I did this I always make sure the finger contacts on the board are clean, when the button contact stuff was disintegrating it would come off onto the tracks as black crud, which is conductive of course so confusing the electronics. I clean them with switch (contact) cleaner on a clean cloth. Ditto the battery contacts.
