CO emissions

Hi,
just had the Scorp MOT'd. Passed but saw that both the CO emissions have jumped and were close to upper limit  Shocked
Up till now they've barely registered so when I got home I investigated.
The air filter was last changed 17k ago - no problem really but I noticed that the little filter inside the air filter housing where  the emissions return was soaked in oil - so much so that it had also accumulated in base of the air filter housing and about 1" of the air filter was also oily. I last checked this in April and it was all clean and never seen this before. Checked the tube at both ends and seemed clean and not dripping in oil (which is what I expected).
The only thing I've changed is using Mobil 1 5w/30 instead of the usual Magnatec 5w/30 in August but can't see that as a cause (though I notice that the rare rattle at start up hasn't occurred since).

Any idea what could have caused this - and possible remedy?

An OBD scan may assist. Possible Lambda/02 sensor fault.  I think a little oil in filter housing isn't unusual. On the start up rattle. Have you tried WOT, (Wide Open Throttle) on start up.

Hi Adam,
forgot to add: OBD shows no difference with previous scans - all pretty stable, no codes. But I haven't had a close look at the switching of the cats yet - the data seemed ok and I'll run the visual. I changed filter and cleaned MAF. Google produced some useful suggestions like this one. I'll keep an eye on it.

Rattle isn't a problem - it rarely rattled and now never. Tried WOT once - nearly cacked myself as engine fired up - never again.

Never seen oil in my filter housing ~ might be a crankcase breather problem?

Hi,
now got some codes P1131 & P1151 (1st ones ever!) - lean correction to both banks.

Possible vacuum leak (pipes or gaskets or the rubber collar connecting the offside manifold)

The hissing sound seems to be normal

Have replaced the PCV and the oil filler cap (oil blowing past it onto exhaust - smelly). Will have a root around the pipes tomorrow although they look ok and secure.

Had a similar problem which gave erratic idle-it was due to a crack in the plastic T piece in the vac tube behind the manifold (in front of the bulkhead) which took ages to find because it looked ok as the crack was on the rear side !

All vacuum pipes checked - all secure, no cracks.
Noticed the connector between the MAF and resonator had been knocked loose (easily done  Angry ) and this caused the codes. Went for a drive with OBD running and no codes and all data looks good. So hopefully problem solved by either changing the PCV, the oil filler cap or both. Will have to go for a good run on motorway to confirm.
