Heatshrink Tubing.

Having embarked on some re-wiring I had a rethink due to the fragile state of some of the loom. As many will be aware once disturbed the insulation can flake off having lost all its elasticity. I made a couple of areas 'safe' by using heatshrink as I did with each soldered joint. Looking for a supply I came across This site which supplies clear tubing. The beauty of this is that the original wiring colour code can still be seen through it and,so the owner tells me, can even tiny lettering. I will order some to try as I feel this might be an alternative method of preserving the looms without risking major disturbance. If anyone has used this I'd be interested to hear. You will see that it is available in 1metre lengths which seems ideal.

Aye, heat-shrinking is just the biz. I've done it with many old Bike wiring and it works a treat. Recently had to do it with some house wiring because we have a 'chewer' in the house, that being one of our lovely big Maine-Coon Cats, I'm almost sure it's the Ginger one! He also likes to chew kitchen-roll for some obscure reason.

Having bought some of this clear heatshrink I can confirm that it is totally clear....avoid the adhesive lined clear..as this, because of the glue inside, is not so 'see through'.

i have now recieved a small supply of heatshrink clear and i regard it as an investment as i find if you have the relevent spare part or the means to repair yo never ever need it --sods law says its always something else goes wrong---i wouldnt have known a source of heatshrink without this site posting thanks simmo
