Boot Warning Light

Hi all
The boot ajar warning light came on recently on the dash.  I checked all the connections around the boot lock/lock motor area but everything seems fine.  The door locks as usual with the key and opens when it should with the button but doesn't work with the remote.
Are these problems connected?
Any help appreciated.

Hi Brad,

If your car is a saloon the wiring can break on the boot hinge, i believe its in the loom that goes down the right hand hinge as you look at it

Matt is correct. Smiley  Unfortunately some pictures showing damage in this area were lost when the site crashed some years ago. The loom runs over the offside rear wheel arch emerging into the boot near the boot hinge. If the loom is not secured correctly to the bodywork the boot hinge can foul it and eventually cause the wires to break. You may need to unravel some of the loom wrapping to see if that is the situation in your case. If it is some photos would be useful.  Smiley

Hi
Thanks for that.
Again it's too dark to see anything.
I'll check tomorrow if weather is dry .... of course, if I find any damaged cabling I'll try and upload a few pics.

Brad, I'm not sure if This diagram helps but if you scroll to the bottom you'll see the switch detailed and it would appear to be a red and black wire you are looking for?.  Smiley

Hi all.
Just managed to get a good look at the boot problem.
Wiring all appears okay.
After stripping to boot lock mechanism out and loads of wiring, I found the boot ajar switch floating free in the boot lid.  I clicked the blue coloured switch with the ignition on, and the warning light goes out.
Only problem now is to find where the switch actually fits !!!   Any ideas?

JOB SORTED !!
Yes, the drawings were very helpful.
Item no: 11  shows what they call a " ... lock set/reset switch "
This blue switch IS the boot ajar switch that caused the problem and had just came loose.
If you follow the drawings, it is a very easy job and item 11 describes exactly where the switch fits.
You have to remove the latch mechanism (4 x bolts) to click the boot ajar switch back into position.
I can easily imagine that slamming the boot lid down several times could dislodge the switch, therefore a thing to look out for.
Many thanks for all the help.

Only the 3rd pic is true to mine, upside down of course.
The second pic is interesting, but the blue micro-switch is fitted in a different position to mine.
Depending upon the weather, I'll see if I can strip everything down again (before I pop all the trim back !!) and take a few pics.  It may take a day or two.
Is there any info regarding uploading pics to this forum?

Brad, I'm sure some pictures would be helpful. You may even consider a 'write up' which we could put in How to do Things'.

Please note the last post re size of pictures. We don't want Snoopy getting getting upset!!.  Not a pretty site! Roll Eyes

On a serious note it is to keep the cost of the site down and 'sumfin' to do with Bandwith....don't ask me!!. Roll Eyes Huh

Brad, there is no rush but I'm sure you've seen the sort of thing in that section and there is no doubt it is a great help to others. They say "a picture saves a thousand words "and these type of articles are invaluable which is why we are anxious to continue. If you do an 'article' post it in the How to do Things section where we will 'lock it' so it remains purely informative without comments. Glad you're sorted, Mike. Wink
