Rear Shock Absorbers 2.3 Ultima Estate

Morning all from a very sunny SW France (26 degrees).
I experienced quite a scary ride the other day when driving on a rough road. Difficult to describe the symptoms exactly but the car started skittering almost swaying from the back left and became quite unstable when riding over the rough surface, particularly when steering or braking into right hand corners. Up until a few days ago I had not noticed a problem so this has happened quite recently. As it happened I had noticed a few days earlier that when the car drove over a couple of slightly raised manhole covers, a similar thing occurred but I did not think much of it at the time. I ought to add that there is no knocking from the rear end something I would have expected from a faulty shock absorber.
The car has recently passed the French equivalent of the MOT and the steering is perfect so I suggest it might be the rear left strut or shock absorber problem. Has anyone any ideas as to what might be the cause? Assuming it is a suspension/strut problem, I was reading one of the site topics today that suggested a Boge non self levelling shock absorber will fit the estate. Can anyone tell me which one this is? It is apparently similar to the Monroe R3410 which I also have in mind. As always will be grateful for your valued comments.

Check the rear wheel bearing - these can fail and cause dodgy handling from the rear.

My 2.0 ltr estate has the Monroes fitted and is perfectly OK.

Yes they are. You need to know that the rear suspension has to be dropped in order to remove the existing shocks as they are too big to be dropped out. The new ones however can be dropped out should that ever be necessary. Mine, when I bought them were just over £20 each.

Yes I do know that the suspension has to be dropped. And, many thanks for confirming that the Monroes will fit.
