Auto Dim Mirror

Well, for the second time my Interior mirror has failed.   So I'll go-over to a manual mirror if I can.    Can someone please advise which is the best 'Manual-Mirror' to fit?   (A Mondeo?)  Also, now that I've removed the second mirror, I'm left with the mounting stuck to the screen.   Is this mounting compatable with any Ford manual mirror, or do I just un-stick the mounting from the screen and then use a normal Fordy sticky-patch for the Mondeo (or whatever) mirror?

Thanks Peter

Hi Peter,

I'm pretty sure any Mondeo mirror of the same vintage can be pressed onto the ball joint of the Scorpio mirror stem..............

Warm them up first with a hot air gun as the plastic becoms brittle when cold, and ffs don't do it with the stem attached to the glass  Wink

Thanks for the info Dave.

I've taken the mirror right off the glass, including the stem.   This because it looks as if the stem bit has a wee crack in it.   I still have the stem.   But will another decent Ford mirror clip onto the receiver on the glass?

No idea I'm afraid, look at as many Ford screens as you can in car parks etc, unless you have a nearby breakers yard  Wink

I know I cracked the screen on my old 12V Ultima trying to get the bonded on metal bit off a few years back when fitting a different mirror to it !!

I got a Mondeo mirror for mine and it included the stalk which has a self adhesive pad, so a doddle to put on. Got it via Trevor at Ford Parts UK, but was a few years ago.

Thanks very much to all replies.   Just Ten minutes ago I took the bull-by-horns so to speak, and went out to tackle the problem of removing the bonded-on mounting off the inside of the screen.   Managed it hoorah!   just went round and round the edges with a thin kitchen knife without being tempted to 'prise' it off the screen.   Took about Five minutes, and it virtually just dropped-off.   So now I just need to find a nice new Ford mirror with manual dip and a sticky-on pad!

Would you's believe that there are now no new Ford mirrors with just a plain back for a sticky-pad!   They all have some form of clip-on system.   So I've got one in apparently 'mint' condition off ebay from a 1996 Ultima with a plain flat base to accept a double sided sticky.   £10.

We'll see what it's like?

I put on a auto dipping mirror off a bmw, same three wires and works very well. I had to change the base, I took the mirror and base from the scrapyard, only £6, I think they made a mistake on the price. Grin
