Loss of radio signal

Hi is there a aerial signal amp on the scorpio? For some reason the radio signal has become weak.
I have checked and cleaned up the aerial and tried 3 radio's and it is still weak.
The radio was playing up by cutting out then coming back with a little jiggling then after this happened several times it lost the station I was on and now all I can get is radio 2 and no other stations which I find very odd but as it is the same on all 3 radio's it has to be a amp or the aerial but then I assume I would not even get radio 2 then.
Or maybe my scorp has a mind of it's own like the car called Christine in the films lol.

It is driving me mad trying to work out what is doing this lol.

Any help or advice would be very helpful.

Thanks Andy

No amp on the Scorpio. I assume you've cleaned the aerial earth accessed through the interior light (makes contact where it’s bolted to the roof). I’ve seen it suggested fitting a bit of plastic tube over the fixing bolt to keep the wires apart or help prevent tracking due to damp.
I believe if you put it on long/medium wave and rattle some keys along the aerial if you get a lot of interference it tends to indicate a poor earth.

Make sure the earth connector on the lead at the radio hasn’t opened up, mine springs open very easily due to the way the right angle plug can get pulled sideways when sliding the radio out.

Hi Tompion the aerial connector at the radio is fine but I found a broken wire which is why the radio was cutting out and found all the wiring tied up in knots so there was not enough length to get the radio out. I did check the aerial and cleaned it all up but no  change so maybe I should look for a aerial that sticks on the windscreen if they still make them.  Thanks Andy

I presume you have tried the radio end of the aerial and checked the plug carefully, but I cant understand why only the one station since the tuner is in the radio and you would have had to develop the same obscure fault on all 3.
Have you tried the radio with just a piece of wire in the aerial socket or in another car?
Which model radio?

The radio is a 7000 and don't have another car lol. I am going to get another aerial to try when the sun comes out and it stops raining but it is a very odd problem.

Must be something wrong with the actual aerial cable somewhere ~ even with VHF you only need a break or a bad contact and the signal is attenuated noticeably.

Hi Mike I agree I bought a replacement modern screw on aerial and the signal was even worse and rather than pull all the aerial cable out have decided
it is easier to replace the aerial and cable with one that I can stick on the bottom of the windscreen and run the cable down the side between the door and then up under the dash.
