Bruce. The details are Here. The answer is Carb cleaner. Please note there is no mention of using a hammer, crowbar or similar.  The most important thing is DO NOT TOUCH the filament. Just use the spray to get it clean. I guess your problem is probably an air leak as suggested by Scorpio.
