explorer auto gearbox

i think this is one fore dave 3203 the wise one on auto box problems.been driving a t reg ford explorer fore the last 18 monthes on wendsday puled up at a roundabout went to pullaway and lost all drive in D put it backin to 1 or 2 or R and it will drive ok but stay in the lower gears .your advice will be mutch appreciated .the oil is up to the level and cleen .

If it was a Scorpio......I'd have a guess at Transmission Range Sensor...or equivalent on that vehicle.... But I may be talking out of my posterior

Busted O/D Sprag, Gearset and / or O/D Clutch, strip and rebuild needed, common fault on all these type of transmissions HTH Dave
