2.9 oil filter

Has any one used the oil filter that fits the 2.0 on the 2.9. Where I get my filters from now say a smaller diameter filter is the one, I think its the same length as the normal one/old one. Halforde list the same filter for 2.0 as the 2.9 which is longer than the normal one, same dia though.

Recall the oil filter on a 2.0 Pinto engine was the same as for a 2.8 Cologne engine - EFL90 was the Ford code.

Yep thats the same, but all the ones I have bought up untill now have been shorter, the thread and seal are the same. Its the clearance between it and the body/subframe. I would have kept a stock if I knew they were going to change them, I expect ford still sell the right one.

Sorry Tenfut, the EFL298 is the right one, the EFL90 has the same thread and seal diameter but is longer, so may hit something. Just seen on ebay an EFL247 forsale for the scorpio.

Can't see the oil filter hitting anything - plenty of clearance I think. My 2.8 XR4i had the additional oil cooler adapter between the cylinder block and the filter and it also used the EFL90 without any problems.

IIRC the Cosworth uses the smaller Filter because of the location of the Cat in the O/S Downpipe. Because it uses a smaller Filter the Oil and Filter changes were listed by Ford as a smaller mileage than the 12V Engines. My 24V powered Rally Car doesn't have the Cats or the Modine Oil Cooler, I run a Sandwich Plate and 16 Row Cooler Rad, and use a longer filter than EFL 90 as I have clearance. Don't use the longer filter, as even if it will physically fit the heat from the Cat will cook it HTH Dave

Thanks for the answer Dave, I knew there must be a reason for it being shorter.
