Central Locking Ultima 2.3

Hi All,
I have a very strange situation with the door locking system on my ultima 2.3 estate (1997) and would be grateful for any advice (not to change the car though!).
1. The red master key will lock the drivers door but will not open it. It opens and shuts the passenger door.
2. The first of our two ignition keys will not open or close any door and the remote  does not work either.
3. The second black key will close both doors but will not open either door. The remote works.
I have looked at posts on this subject but I cannot determine what may be causing this unusual set of circumstances.

Any Ford key of the Scorpio type will (usually) lock the car.
Worn keys or worn locks are the likely cause of not unlocking.
So possibly the only unusual part is the keys that won't lock the car.
The fob that doesn't work could be flat batteries, dirty contacts, faulty fob or it needs reprogramming.

If you try reprogramming the fob you need to do both at the same time.

I agree with Tompion and the drivers door lock is the one that takes the most wear. There is also a chance that the linkage in the drivers door is worn or has slightly moved and can be checked with the door card off and working it manually.

I agree with Tompion in that it seems the keys are past their sell by date. Has the red key been in regular use? If so then it has been worn in the same way as the others. Sounds like your first ignition key is totally worn out because, as Tompion says, any similar key should lock the car.

The drivers door lock also seems to be well worn because the Red key won't open it yet it does the passenger side which gets far less wear.

If one remote works then clearly there is an issue with the other one.

There is an excellent article Here which also has a link to the procedure for removing the lock itself. Smiley

Would appear that it is worn keys and/or the door locks. Would be most grateful for key blanks. Could you email me at ala.nb.lb@hotmail.com with price plus postage, after which I can pay you and give address details. I live in France. Great advice as usual from the forum! My thanksto everyone.
