hi all how are fuzeboxes connected to the loom ?is it one multiplug that a garage can easily change--or is the wiring tricky ? i have had to have parts of my box by the battery bypassed because when my clapped out alternator had to be changed the ign warning light stayed illuminated despite full charging rate observed -turned out to involve two relays one was the air con relay somehow feeding back--- any way air con now activated by ignition on and every thing works --a bonus is that for the first time the auto box changes up at the right speeds and no longer drops out of lock up top at about 60 mph only to change back up about a mile later--i obviously had dodgy voltage for a long time

Found 1 of these fuseboxes the other day in my spares when I was rummaging around in 'The Shed' - didn't take too much notice of the connector but I'll have a look tomorrow.

The auxiliary box is connected by several multiplugs on the underside.
So is the main fusebox but in addition it has a long multiplug on the front which is locked in and this leads to the loom in the engine bay.

You can see the connectors for the battery side fuse box at the bottom of the page here:
http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/fusebox2.htm

There's a diode amongst the connectors that I was told in an old post was to do with the aircon:
"The AC clutch has a diode for absorbing the current produced by the colapsing of the magnetic field when it's swithched off."

I wonder if that may be faulty & the cause of your "feeding back". It looks like this:

thanks guys for your help i can see that uncharacteristicly ford was content to make fitment of these boxes labour intensive ---old policy used to be make things quick and idiot proof to fit so that a chimp could replace a part---anyway Tompion that is a good thought about that diode---makes me wonder where the surge is going when the a/c clutch demagnetises now but it all seems ok at the moment -----i guess when i do get a spare box i will have to expect a biggish bill if it becomes necessary to have it fitted

yes it looks like i had better have one ready in case the problem spreads-a quick look at e bay doesnt show any at the moment-if you have an ok one for sale please let me know price etc--i dont even know if my facelift diesel differs from earlier or petrol models
i suspect the basic boxes will be the same on all--its the box on the battery side i am looking for

An old post but thought I'd better update about the diode location.

My spare fuse box has a diode amongst the wiring under the connectors - don't know what model it came from.

My 2.3 doesn't have a diode there, it's on the chassis rail where the oxygen & octane adjust plugs are located.
