Infuriating rattle

Have a very annoying rattle from the back of my 97 estate, seems it may be a large black/white striped hose that goes behind the 6 cd player in the back left wing.
Seems other owner may have had a headache also as we have bits of padding around and behind it, possibly drain pipe from sunroof(?) as the end is "feelable" and seems to have a hole in it. Where do the drains from this generally go, Wits end now and spoiling the car but boy does it clank over bumps.
Thanks for any light on this.

It does sound like the sunroof drain.
It should plug into a hole in the rear air exit vent.
If you don't know where the vent is (there's also one on the other side of the car) look underneath behind the side of the bumper - you'll see a flap that "should" cover the vent when air isn't being blown through.
There should be some sort of strainer that can be blocked so check it's clear while you're at it - can't remember off hand whether it's part of the pipe or the vent.
If you can't see the vent, turn on the blower & shut the doors - you should feel the air coming out if you reach under the bumper.

I think you may be looking in the wrong place.
There is a known issue with the estates and it is documented Here
Wink The post is by Eric R one of the founders of this site but sadly no longer posting. Sad

Thanks Simmo, had a ridge in it so insulating tape duly applied. That sorted the noise, but the clunk is still there
I think Tompion may be right whaen I have time (and weather) to look at the sunroof drain properly, judging by the bits already behind the Cd player this has been a problem before.
Happy New Scorpioing

There are foam blocks fitted to insulate the CD player from shock. You should try and route the drain so that it doesn't interfere with the player & the foam.
