Remote Key Fobs

Like many, I have had some irritating problems with the original key fobs for my scorpio. Works sometimes not others. Despite cleaning and reprogramming several times 2 of them now refuse to work at all.
First question:
Will any make of fob work if programmed together with a working key? If so does anyone have a suggestion as to where I can get a suitable 'blank' fob?
I note there is a universal key fob advertised here:

The year range of this product goes back to 1997 but does anyone know if it will work on a 1997 Scorpio Mk2?

People have tried in the past & no one ever reported finding a suitable remote from here or the states.
I'm not aware of anyone trying the one you mention.

Doesn't someone repair them on here?   I've had one done, and instead of the rubber buttons they're plastic.   Also, I found a fob from a '98 Mustang from the USA for $10 does the trick, but they're like 'hens-teeth' as well.   Instead of the 'boot' button, my fob has an orange 'Panic' button, these are plastic too.   Maybe Simmo will remember?

I had 2 remotes serviced by a guy called Phil Heap from Cumbria about 5  or 6 years ago. I think he used micro switchesHuh? They certainly have a more positive feel when being used. More of a "click" than a "squeeze" Does that make sense?

They still work as good now as  they did 5/6 years ago.

If I remember correctly Phils details came from Simmo but I could be wrong.

Tried one. Different inside.
Graham T and I got together in 2015 and I sent him my spare fobs to add to his spare ones. He was testing them and converting them to microswitches and offering them for sale for the site fund.

Tony, you are right BUT Phil stopped doing them some while ago.

However...as Glyn says Graham T fixed his and he has agreed to help Exucasvu too.

Unfortunately Transit ones of any kind don't do the trick, I'm not sure why.   The Mustang one I have is from the same era as the Scorpio, and is exactly the same size and casing, just the buttons are plastic and have a very positive 'click' when pushed.

Peter, IIRC the problem is that ours employ a 'rolling code' which is totally different to other types. Probably ahead of it's time!! Smiley

Hi Peter
I thought that link might be helpful if someone wanted a go at fitting the micro switches to their remote. I thought the other bit may not be of use, ours uses two batteries not one.
