Battery will probably go flat if left connected for any length of time. If it was me I would start the engine 2 or 3 times a week and run it for 5 or 10 mins.

Sometimes in hot weather my estate alarm goes off in the evening if stood all day (to do with the shatter detectors on estate rear windows so I've been told.) if you start it a couple of times a week as suggested by Mike then all should be fine, a good battery will last quite a while, if you decide to disconnect battery remember negative first (or only as this isolates the car and battery) but on reconnecting the car has to relearn your driving style. IMHO frequent starts and short idles are about the worst thing over the winter, you just start to get things warm, then you turn it off, it starts to cool, air condenses drawing damp external air in, which drops out moisture everywhere. Then you start it again in few days, it doesn't get hot enough to evaporate all the moisture from last time, then you suck some more in as it cools, and if its a classic by the end of the winter you have so much water in the oil its stupid. If the battery is good enough to stand for a week, you are better of just starting it just once a week and with the heater and aircon on let it run for a good half an hour at least so that everything (including the oil) gets nice and hot. Heater and AIrcon should also help keep the damp out of the cabin. Alan
