registration dates

Have noticed my M reg saloon has 2 different registration dates, it is jan 95 build and on the log book feb registered, but on mot data shows first registered in dec 95

Would this just be an error by the MOT tester and a "general" year of manufacture or does confusion reign?

If it was originally registered as a demonstrator for instance would this actually delay the normal "road use" date?

Dooh says Bart Simpson, and he's probably right!! Shocked

I would have thought V5 registration date should tie up with MoT, I thought they got the MoT details from the DVLA database, will have a look at mine.

January 95 build and registered in Feb would be pretty quick, although my Other Classic has only just over a week between build and registration, which makes me think it was specifically ordered.

I am pretty sure the demonstrator thing would make no difference, my Montego was registered Dec 94 and took to the road brand new in August 95, the salesman told me that they were actually still being drawn out of factory storage.

Had a look at my MoT, I see what you mean now, the registration date as quoted on the MOT Check website. Mine ties up with the V5 and I thought the source of the data was the same so seems odd that yours varies.

For a car to be used as a 'demonstrator', it must be registered.   Some garages try to cheat this a bit by putting 'garage-plates' on the car, and allowing customers to take it out for a 'spin'.    The reason for a garage doing this is quite obviously so that the car won't show up with a previous owner.   However, when a garage registers a car to use it as a 'demonstrator', they get a huge discount for that car from the manufacturer, and in some cases, (Mercedes) they also get the difference in money or discounts of the price that the car would have been sold at new, compared to the actual price they get for the car as a pre-owned (by them) demonstrator.   Of course some of the 'sharks' out there want their cake, and to eat it!   A very many Scorpio's sat in showrooms for a long time, 'Movvy' sat in a showroom for more than a year, built in June '97 I thin, and sold as a pair to a company on 1st August '98.   But it was sold £7000 under list price, the same as it's 'buddy'.   Funny though, as much as the Brits hated the Scorpio, the Belgians loved it, and they couldn't get enough of them.   There is still a big follow in Belgium, and lots of spares to have, new and old, I got loads of spares from there.   That's why the steering-wheel is all worn-out more on the left side!   Roy, notice?

Hi Peter,
It seems a lot of Scorpios sat around for a while as you say Movvy is only "S" reg as it was so long waiting to get "out & about", yet some like my "M" reg were made and sold straight away and, not I think, as just by being a 24v, having checked quite a few over time they generally have up to nearly a year to clear from manufacture.
Trouble is now a lot coming up for sale have been sat on driveways and in sheds for a long time making them a real challenge to get back on the road and running right-like "a sad tummy is an empty tummy" -"a stationary Scorpio is a sad Scorpio" all sorts of gremlins crawl from the wreckage.

How right you are about a stationary car being a sad car, with a lot more problems coming to the surface.   One of the reasons I took 'Movvy' down to you, it needed more use.   I'm having that kind of problem with my Jaguars now, I've retired fully now and don't use my cars as much.   Will the 1957 XK140 ever get onto the road?   I'm told it needs to be ready for my wife when she retires in 2-3 years, she wants to drive around in Europe for a few weeks!   All that's got to be done is a top-end re-build of a Mk10 4.2litre engine, (with 'C'-Type gas-flowed head)  Matched to a late BW 4 speed automatic gearbox.   All the leather works needs to be done, but I have a friend who can do that from scratch.
