Well, Ruby drives like a dream, however there are a few problems:

As I increase the speed the throttle feels increasingly heavy. When I give her a bit more accelerates fine but when I ask for more urgency she changes down, revs up to aprox 3700rpm to 4200rpm, at which point she cuts back suddenly, the rev counter drops to zero, the engine does not stall.  I release the throttle and everything is back to lovely smooth running.

There are no vacume leaks.
Fuel consumption is really good.

Ruby stationary and in P:  Engine warm and running smoothly. I increase the revs smoothly and at a steady rate.  All is well until she reaches aprox. 4200rpm. when she cuts back ie. the revs drop suddenly.  If I keep the pressure on on the throttle the revs pick up smartly to the point at which she first cut back, at which point the revs cut back again and pick up again.    I don't like to keep this up for too long., once or twice and I give up.

With the engine warm and idling, and gears in P. When i give her full throttle she revs smartly up to aprox. 4200rpm and cuts back, as described above.

So there you have it folks. Please have a scratch of your heads and let me know what you think.

The revs of around 4000 suggests to me that it may be something to do with the VIS.
Have a read of this excellent article by Eric R: Here

Thank you Bob. I have just now had a good read of Eric R's article and I am very much inclined to agree with you.
I have a spare VIS which I will fit shortly. And see what happens
