2.3 manual lost key

Hi,

Helping out a buddy of mine. He has a 2.3 manual scorpio, very low miles, so he is keen to get it going. The root of the problem is that the ignition key was lost by the previous owner. This scorpio is with PATS inside the PCM.

What are the options to make this thing work?

We have a 2.3 automatic parts car, from which we could buy the PCM, key and PATS ring around the ignition key. Would this trick work? I`m aware that if we use the automatic PCM we would essentially need to do all the things in “automatic to manual” swap, to fool the PCM.

Second option is, and I`m not quite sure about this, to buy a ignition lock, key, pats ring from one car and hook it to the existing loom. Would that work or is the ignition key programmed to the PCM?

Third option is to get the Ignition key, PATS ring, external PATS module and change the pins on the PCM to the “PCM with external PATS” pinout.

I hope you understand what I mean. All these options are derived from the parts we could get our hands on. Programming the keys costs like 250 EUR and I have no belief that someone who doesn`t understand scorpios can do it. All the parts we could by for about 50 EUR.

PATS ring is just a reader so assuming his car has one no need to change it.

Option 2 you'd need to get the key programmed to the PCM.

I don't know about the other options, Matt posted about manual conversion here:
http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=admin;action=dis play;num=1285441192

But that's modifying the auto loom but presumably you can adapt the process.

I don't know if key programming is available for the Scorpio via the Forscan extended licence, it might be an option have a look here:

There is a PATS bypass available if needed. But it makes the car very vulnerable Email ME IF you want it.
