OK as you know Ive had/got a few scorpios, but the grey estate has me wonderin'. Sit in car ignition on but nothing elase (naked motoring whatever next but game for a laff) and we have a fan running I think round about the radio area, any pointers? Not had the dash out and dont want to, but I think its the only one that does this. Its july 95 build for N reg cos estate, was there a fan associated with the old style radio (present and working here) with the seperate amplifier also? Any help appreciated here. Serious child now eh!! NEVER

Is it not the air con fan the other side of the bulkhead you can hear? Read this You mention an Amplifier?. The details on This page may help. It seems from one of the diagrams that the amplifier is behind the glovebox. There is no mention of a fan nor is one mentioned in any of the connections listed.

OK so ther is not a secret fan inside the car behind the dash-right? Heater blower works fine but as the air con is missing the tensioner on the engine I have no aircon, (muppet who bought it to put my lovely cossie engine in a ford crapi stripped the aircon pump out before I had it), now refitted aircon compressor but not finished yet). Jest easing my brain into this Thanks R Thanks for update will investigate when I thaw out R

There's a small fan in the module behind the climate control panel, it draws air past the temperature sensor that's behind the little grille between the 2 control knobs. It's normally hard to hear, you can usually only hear it ignition on, engine off & heater fan off. If you tear off a small piece of tissue paper & place it over the grille you can get it to be held there until you turn off the ignition - childish enough

Thank you, it seems I have asked a sensible question So the fan is within the aircon module, have a few of these around so will try swapping one out-and report back. once we thaw out. New wiser me from now on then methinks I see scotland went to -22 C last night shall we start a fund for a hot water bottle for Peter?? Still cant use the yellow ones & I agree though keep tryin

It's the module that the CC panel plugs into, the other end of the ribbon cable you have to remove the dash to get at it. At the back of the CC panel you'll see a rubber cap this seals to the unit behind. It's only a tiny fan, not normally very noisy but I did have one got a bit rattly. The Is still on the site but the link is broken so you have to find the location http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/YaBBImages/rofl.gif and post it as you would a picture. To see how I've done it click on quote - top right of this post

Minus 14 here just now. That fan problem you hear, it's not on all the time, but when the dreaded 'detector-thingy' starts to get worn and overheat, aye the thing that's like a 'heat-sink' that plugs into the top of the scuttle with three wires off it, can't remember the name or function! However, it's VERY expensive from Ford, about £350 (but only about £40 for a Ford Focus one) and as it starts to get ropey, that fan comes on a lot more. I got one for a very small price from someone on here, Tomp, or maybe Scorpio Mike, anyway, that fan coming on was the first thing I noticed, then the blower started going haywire, then the heating was unable to be controlled.

Hi Again all, Thanks for the input Peter, I do not have the hub and or bearing (just to clarify, but am saving up for a hot water bottle for you ![Smiley](https://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/YaBBImages/smiley.gif) ![Smiley](https://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/YaBBImages/smiley.gif) Had a problem with r747 eae 2.3 ghia '97 that only had flat out blower fan. The local sparky fixed it with a bit of solder or playing around with it, has 3 heat type things on it and 2 had corroded. Perchance this may be the same, cant test the aircon as not fully rebuilt yet (tensioner needed) as Joe from glasgow pulled all the aircon pump bits out before I had it THANK YOU JOE. Still cold even down here so will look again when it becomes tropical.

The item your man fixed is dealt with Here It is a thermal fuse fitted to cars without Climate Control. The fan running on full all the time is a classic sign.
