I wrote recently concerning auto box problems on cosworth 95 model. I had just had the auto cooler pipes replaced as were leaking. Prior to this had no discernable gear change problems. Following the work, the car was ok for two journeys (approx 50 miles each), then on start of third (and ever since in trying to get OBD to produce DTC) AUTO BOX runs like a dog. Finds 2nd year after excessive revs, almost same in 3rd and when in 4th, at about 50mph, the O/D light flashes continuously until stop car.  
 
Today, 2 codes produced...at last !
 
P0732 Gear 2 incorrect ratio
p1756Shift Solenoid no'2 performance.
 
My question is, can I take this at face value and assume Shift Solenoid no'2 is the problem here, or am I being mislead. I cleaned the MAF and records less than 1 volt at idle, but makes no difference. The only other clue that the codes might be misleading, is at idle the LTFT1 & LTFT2 are both reading negative. Could it still be MAF, I wonder.  
 
Any ideas most welcome.

I think you need to get the car back to the garage where the work was carried out for them to check underneath. In the areas where they were working are the multiplugs which carry the low-voltage signal wires, and also the external faces of the shift solenoids. I wonder if perhaps they have disturbed one of the connectors (the main multiplug and/or the VSS connector and this must be ruled out.
Or perhaps their work occurring just before the OD light flashing and LOS is simply a coincidence.
 
Both codes you mention refer to the same object, the 2nd shift solenoid. It has failed both the gear ratio check and the rationality check of the autobox (see http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/ccmonitor.htm) and the shift solenoid B is stuck on, either because it is hydraulically stuck or shorted to power.
 
I don't think this is the MAF - faults with this normally reports the #3 gear ratio because the misleading airflow figure changes the box up too early and the TCC becomes erratic.
 
The major possibility is that the #2 shift solenoid has developed a fault. This may be because  
1) it has been damaged during work on the gearbox, or
2) that multiplugs have been disturbed and failing to make proper contact. The VSS and TSS signals back to the EECV from the gearbox are very important for the CCM to make rationality checks on the gearbox performance.
3. Or that the wires leading to the multiplugs have been damaged and the SS#2 wire is shorted.
4. Or that the solenoid has stuck on by coincidence.
 
I don't know how approachable your garage is, but get them to check it without delay. Or go elsewhere and get a second opinion. If you are certain that there is no outward sign of problems then you'll have to consult an autobox specialist. The shift solenoids can be changed from outside the autobox so you can decide whether you wanted to go to the expense of a whole recon box of just repair the single solenoid.

Thanks Eric, I really appreciate your helpful comments.
 
My mechanic is private,and practically rebuilt his own vehicle recently (same model) so I trust him in what he does, and he is more than happy to check the things you point to.  I wonder though, would you have a schematic drawing that shows where the 2nd shift solenoid is situated and perhaps a part no'to boot.
 
I will keep you infomed of progress, but it may take another 2 weeks, due to other commitments. Either way, I owe you that much and all the other guys here.
