Before replacing the IAT sensor (around £10-15) check that the cold air feed from the front of the car is correctly connected to the air filter box. If this is missing or has got dislodged then the engine sucks hot air from the engine bay and it's possible for the IAT to sense an air temperature of over the error threshold which sets the fault code. Clear the fault code and see if it returns or monitor the IAT from a start as it should start at the ambient temp and only rise a bit once the engine warms up.

Tony, the air intake was not correctly fitted but only the last tube in front of the rad, so I don't think warm air would be getting in, but I put it on properly anyway. I have cleared the code and watched the IAT in action. The IAT sits at -40 F and swings suddenly to between 35 F and 65 F . I think the IAT is broken. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks Waders

Hi, I put a new IAT sensor on today, 10 min job. Watched the IAT in action again, and a nice steady 44 degrees was registering. Waders.
