Hi, Just a question! The EECIV fcr that is featured on the website, will it work on a '98 1.8 escort with EECiv ECU. It has pin outs from the OBD connector 3, 4, 5, 7, 10,16. I've no engine checklight and the local ford dealer has told me that it is not possible to flash out any codes that may be stored in the ECU. Whether this is to deter me from doing any diagnostic work myself, I do not know. It is extremely hard to find any info anywhere on these later EECIV ECU's and any help would be very much appreciated. Many Thanks, Kev.

hi there is it a zetec engine (16 valve)? that might use a EEC-V pcm. if that's the case, then you could do a obd-2 scan on it. i've done a few mondeos (late '95), without a problem. hth

Hi, Yes its a Zetec-E engine, but Its not EECV. The Local dealer told me that its EECIV, and so its not really OBD2, its fords own protocol, J1850PWM, I believe. Its a bit of OBD and fords own stuff. Its hard to find any info on these systems, and I'm a little bit reluctant to go to the main dealer just to check any faults stored in the ECU, espescally when the older Mark5 escorts EECIV ECU could be flashed out just by jumping 2 terminals and the code could be read on the engine checklight. Apart from the FCR on the website page this is about as much info as I can get hold of!

Hi, I shall have a look at these star testers. You can get the diagnostic checkers for the older style EECIV ecu's where the diagnostic plug was either a 3 or 5 pin socket, but I cant find a ford one with the OBD 16 pin diagnostic sockets. Many thanks for your advice!

Have a look at the main page about Star Testers, it really is only a simple light or meter Its quite simple so they tell me. or even get a blank obd conector from Maplin. http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/star.htm

Hi sorry for the delay in posting. No I havent tried to fit the gunson 3 pin FCR to the 16 pin OBD socket. Not too sure if it would work on mine as I havent got an engine checklight on my car, and would need to incorporate an LED or lamp to flash out the codes, also a 16 pin obd plug would be needed. There seems to be scarce info on these later EECIV PCM's!
