OBD Codes. we reached correct assumptions?

Hi guys Scanned Geoff Rose's Cossy. Only code was P1132 Lack of HO2S11 Switches (Sensor indicates Rich See P2196) We think it's the Driver's side Lambda Sensor ( Upstream sensor). Apperently the RAC guy reckoned the driver's side bank of cylinders sounded "hollow" when the lumpy running starts and it is definitely running Rich! Can some confirm this, as it appears to be a straightforward problem, but don't want him to crash out the cash if it is something else. Bob

Bob and Andrew, Although it's easy to suspect the HO2S sensors, it's not quite as easy as that. The sensors flatlining may be because they are faulty - or because the fuelling hasn't changed as it should! See http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/obd2scan7.htm for an explanation of this. Normally, failing HO2S sensors should read 0.00 or very tiny voltages for an extended period (several seconds) or even a negative voltage, (CSD). If they are showing higher voltages it's less likely that they have failed and the fuelling is the problem. Running rich is a classic symptom - the HO2S sensors show rich without switching, and they are accurately showing that the fuel mixture is too high. We need to confirm this by checking the Long Term Fuel Trims (LTFT1 and LTFT2) and recording them for a while while the engine is running. If they are too high then it indicates a problem elsewhere - the MAF needs to be checked, and it could also relate to a faulty fuel rail pressure regulator. Get the scan I suggest in that page and put it up so we can look at it. HTH
