Stafford,
I see that the lead has been purchased now.

This is a DTC displayer only. In other words, it will show the diagnostic trouble code and that is all.
What is doesn't allow is the download of engine sensor as the engine is running. For example, like leftofcentre on a separate thread, you might easily get the HO2S sensor codes P1131 and 1151 and P0171 for a lean fuel trim, but you won't be able to tell from those DTCs whether the HO2S sensors are in fact faulty, or if it is the fuel trims driven lean by a faulty MAF, or a problem with fuel pressure.

IMHO it's worth paying a bit more to get a proper OBD lead and cheap laptop.

ok. Will do.I have nt ordered the one off ebay just wanted opinions on it.Did think about getting it as a quick back up to keep in the glove box etc but will order lead off the alex pepper in Jan. Then after I meet with you and watch the ins and outs of running a proper scan I can help any members down this way Dorset Hampshire Somerset etc. This OBD capability does really help in maintaining my car I really am beginning to see the massive benefits, esp as I have an excellent local trustworthy mechanic. Will be funny if I pull up next time and give him a print out from a scan showing the exact problem. It would be pure carry on to see Andy take a long hard drag on his rolly then scratch is head!!lol

Hello there
I'm in similar position to you regarding OBD.
E-mailed Alex P in US before Christmas.
Can use UK distributor now - only 2 - I chose gendan.co.uk. as better web site
Very good so far answering e-mail queries as I make my mind up about what to get as USB interface now an option
Try http://www.scantool.net . Don't know how to do links so you'll have to type it
