OBD CODE P5450

Hi Everybody, I've recently acquired a second Scorp Ultima for the princely sum of £100:00, bargain of the year I say. New clutch, exhaust, plus other expensive bits. Unfortunately maintained by a plank mechanic, anyway, my mechanic has fixed headlight wiring problem, swapped fuel relay to stop battery drain, replaced rear hub because the other so called mechanic thought it would be a good idea to weld nodules to it to make the bearing fit snug !, plus other bits and bobs. The car now runs superbly and goes like snot, god knows how she'll be when she been given a good servicing as well! Still niggly problems remain that we can't seem to get the bottom of from diags. Problem: ABS and TCS warning lights illuminate immediately following ignition. Clearly they fail self test and OBD reveals P5450 Throttle Plate Problem, here lies the problem what the hell is the throttle plate? where is it? and can I get another without paying Mr Ford very large bucks?. Will a strip down of the TCS module help or do I just pull the bulb from the dash and forget TCS?. Model is 1996 Scorp Ultima 2.0 16v DOHC. Thanks in anticipation. Graeme. PS I've scanned the OBD codes on this site and nothing goes as far as 5450

hi there the only sensor at the throttle, afaik, is the Throttle Position Sensor. give that a check over. what did you use to read the ecu? the first '5' in the code is wrong (not a ford one). might be P1450 Inability of Evaporative Emission Control System to Bleed Fuel Tank. do you get a hiss when opening the tank? hth

I get the "hiss" everytime...and I've got the ABS/TC light problem. Think the two are connected?

hi there no, the hiss is because the car has a 'closed' system. abs problem might be the sensors at the wheels.

I agree with Scorpioman. Most often (in my experience) ABS-problem are because of dirt getting into the connector between cable and sensor. Check those out and clean them up.
