is it me ??

OK - I have a cable like the third one down http://www.obd-2.com/routepit.htm connected with a serial usb adapter to a new 64 bit laptop, the software connects to the car but would only appear to read codes, the virtual dashboard dosn't work and if I send a request for anything else it just gets a message saying that the request cannot be performed. Although I have tried various things with the settings & options nothing seems to make a difference, could it be that the laptop is too modern/powerful ?? or it's the wrong cable (it only has 5 pins) ?? or is it me not knowing what I'm doing ?? Any help would be appreciated

I had loads of problems with the USB-Serial adapter route. In the end I binned it and picked up a PCMCIA serial card on eBay for not very much. That has a "proper" serial port on it and VE hasn't missed a beat since. Dave

When you connect are you selecting PID possible in the DATA tab then selecting for example RPM then SEND? Do the values show up?

| tried that and got some responses, but the connection seems to drop, I tried it in a different usb port & that was a little better, think I might go with a pcmcia adapter (or buy an old cheepy lappy)
