Codes.... Ideas Folkes..

Right, I am still trying to get to the bottom of my rough and lumpy idle.

I pulled my codes ~700 miles ago and had a P0141 and some other codes about LTFT's which I now forget.. The 141 is cosmetic so I am not that concerned as I doubt it will help my running..

Anyway.. Today I have pulled the codes again but also checked the DASH data which confirms my ECT seems to be working and all other data at teh DASH seems ok too,..

Onto the codes..

P1131,P1151,P0171 which relate to the engine being lean.

So what are the usual culprits on a 1995 24V?

I now have a very good 24V (  intended for my sierra ) whcih I can borrow parts off...

Sugestions...

I had a rough and lumpy idle and had three codes relating to lean mixture. I first of all cleaned the MAF, but there was no difference. I then tinkered around with the EGR, but that seemed ok. I then removed the left inlet manifold to check the plastic T pieces that are often mentioned.

The gasket on the manifold was split and one of the pipes leading from the T piece to the right manifold had a hole in it. Used some instant gasket and a piece of fuel pipe I had spare and it was back to a nice smooth tickover.

check all of the above, but I would bet that you have an air leak. Hope this helps.

MAF has already been cleand, disconecting it does have an effect so I am guessing that it's working.

I had a look over the car today, obviously difficult but most of the vac hoses seemed ok.

I am guessing it must be a leak but finding it is going to be fun... What/where is this t-piece?

It looks like I am going to have to pull the manifold off..

I did have a look at that a while back.

I intend to take off the vac lines and bung them on the manifold and see if that helps.

If you look at the diagram there are two 't'pieces shown. One in the bottom of the diagram which has a long pipe connected to it going up the page. Near the top,in the line alongside it there is another 't' piece.

Hi,

I was getting LTFT's way off the scale, and difficult hot starts, rough idle, poor economy through town. 95k on the clock (M reg 24v). Replaced the Fuel Rail Pressure Regulator (page somewhere on the site), and codes disappeared, starts easy now, 24mpg through town. Worth a check....but a bit of a pain to get to.....

cheers

I did consider the FPR but I don't have any trouble starting at all... I have the spare engine so it's worth a shot I guess..

Right did a 40M run back with the computer connected up.

I am showing Bank 1 with High typical 14%-20% going to 25+ and hardly hitting 0 ever.

Lambdas appear to be switching,

And Code show system lean on Bank1.

Bank2 seems ok. ( although strangely I have seen -14% on the STFT on bank2 last week.. )

I recon the imbalance rules out the FPR asI would be leaning out on both banks.. So I am looking for a vac leak.. Near to the Drivers side...
