Finally!!....I have a code.

Finally got a code from my little Autel Geniscan GS100 tonight. .....At least I now know it's working. Smiley

Trouble is, it means something aint right Roll Eyes

Code was....P0171 -  System too lean (bank 1).

Not entirely sure where to start looking, but I have had a problem with the car having trouble starting when hot & also seems to pink a little (again) as well.

This not starting problem has only existed since I fitted a brand new fuel rail pressure regulator a few weeks ago.  I've had my suspicions for a while now that it may be faulty even though it's brand new. Also the pinking coming back again has convinced me even more.

Or maybe I'm totally wrong & should be looking elsewhere Roll Eyes

Any other suggestions anyone? Smiley

Hi,

i was getting same symptoms, my LTFT were off, got a garage to fit a FPR regulator, codes went away but then got lean codes. the garage had not fitted the octopus back on properly and trapped the rubber seal, letting in air. thats been fixed and car runs much better now (not got another scan done yet)

I have checked for air getting in & can't find anything.

I must add that the problem is only intermitant. Most of the time it starts okay & doesn't pink.

Just when you think it's fine again, you go to start it & it turns but won't start. Turn off the ignition & try to start it again & it fires up straight away. Huh.......Then for 5 mins or so it will start pinking, but then pinking will completely dissapear Huh Huh

Update.....removed frpr & checked pipe for splits...seems okay.

Thought I'd try a pressure test of my own....so after cleaning off all petrol residue I blew into the inlet.

I was quite surprised when the air that I blew in came out of the pipe.......either I've got a set of lungs that can blow up tyres Shocked....or there's something wrong with the regulator!! Smiley

Me thinks it's time to take it back to FMD & have it pressure tested.

I'm 99.9% sure it is faulty, so they shouldn't charge me for the pressure test & they should give me another new one FOC...........fingers crossed Wink

P.S....the regulator in it at the moment is from a 2.0 that I got from a scrappy. Even though the part number is slightly different (BA instead of AA at the end), the car is running fine, starts first time & no pinking.
The regulator is identical in shape to the 2.3 & the outlet pipe is the same as well.

Does anyone know if there would be any long term effects from using a 2.0 regulator in a 2.3?
