Hi.
Could anyone help me with my 2.3 scorp. The trip computer tells me that I am getting 15 -16 miles to the gallon on short or long drives.
I have connected my obd cable and i think i have run a scan but I dont understand how to read the infomation.
I have 1 error code "p0340 camshaft position sensor circuit" which I understand may be faulty Arnitel wiring, I keep taping up the wires but the enging heats them up again up.
Could anybody help me with any infomation on how to understand the log file and the values the obd scan reports, or what to scan.

Thanks in advance

hi there

is the VE software from alex pepper (obd-2.com)? if so, you need to scan the following...

RPM
MAF
LTFT
BOTH LAMBDA SENSORS
run these for 5 mins at idle (a/c OFF). every minute, blip the throttle to 2k rpm. end this scan.
then do another scan, switching on and off various temp sensors. also check the tps with the engine off (ignition on). should be from 16% to 92% ish.

try not to drive it on the scan.

oh, check the box with auto re-connect under the GATEWAY, PROTOCOL tabs. that way it should continue to scan even if you need to re-start the engine.

also go into the codes tab so we can see the error code.

save the scans and send them to me (3 parts to each scan with the same name). see http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/obdfaq.htm
forget the anyboard site as that doesn't work now.

re the error code that you have, check that the wires for the sensor at the rear of the 16v plate, aren't caught under it.

Hi.
Thanks for the reply. I have scanned the car with the VE software from alex pepper and have sent  you the files.
I think I scanned all that you need, but was not sure about the Lambda Sensors.
Hope you can have a look at it and see if there is something i can do.
PS, the trip computer is reading 13 miles to the gallon.
Thanks

hi there

re the scan. everything looks ok. Undecided

when was it last serviced? have you check the tyre pressures, brakes, correctly gapped plugs, good quality oil (sae 5w-30), clean air filter, etc?

when was the air con last checked? that could be a big factor. could be running all the time instead of cycling on and off.

you also need to fix the cam sensor wiring. this would normally affect the running of the car (pinking, etc), so might have an affect on the mpg.

btw, you should be getting 17mpg+ around town and 26mpg+ on the m/way.

Hi Scorpio-Man.

Thanks for looking at my scans.
The car is due for a service.
I have just replaced all four tyres, brake pads, and disk, but i will check to see if i have a leak.
All new plugs last year will check again
as for the air con my one seems to be very uncontrollable. sometimes it switches on even when the dial is set to off(all the way round to the left)

I have tried to fix the cam sensor wiring but it needs to be replaced as it is so badley damaged due to the heat from the engine.

This gives me something to look at.
Thanks again for your help.
