ELM 327 Unable to read Ford Scorpio

Some time ago I have bought the following scan tool to read my Ford Scorpio: http://www.scantool.net/scan-tools/pc-based/obdlink.html After trying this out I was unable to read anything because the software kept telling me that the Scorpio is not OBD II compliant. I have posted my question on their forums. https://www.scantool.net/forum/index.php?topic=3777.0 They also told me that the Scorpio is probably not OBD II compliant and that I won't be able to get anything from the car. And yet, I understand that a lot of people here get diagnostic information from their Scorpio all the time. Mostly though, with a special cable and special software that only works with that cable (Vehicle Explorer). I saw one other thread here about someone also using the scantool with the ELM 327 chip http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=OBD;action=displ ay;num=1259939055 What have I done wrong? Why can't I get any diagnostic information from my Scorpio? Has anyone else reading this ever used a scan tool with an ELM 327 chip? Do I need to get the Ford add-on package for my scantool in order to read the Scorpio? Any help is appreciated, for I would really like to solve this issue. Thank you for reading.

Marco. If your car is a 12valve or a diesel,it is EEC1V and requires a STAR tester, only EECV is OBD2. GOZZ.

I have a gasoline, 4 cylinder, 2.3i DOHC engine. I have checked the PCM/ECU in my car and it has the label "EECV" so I am pretty sure it should be OB2 compliant somehow.

I have a cheap chinese cable that works with the scorpio, except for the ABS codes. Have you Marco also tried the scantool.net? It's a bit simpler, but at least it reads the codes and some sensor data.
