DTC P1351 - What does it mean?

I have a U480 Diagnostic tool and I attached it to my Scorpio. It did not show any codes with the ignition on but when I started the engine it displayed a P1351 code.

On checking the code page it tells me that 'Ignition Diagnostic Monitor circuit Input fault'; what exactly does this mean?

As always I will appreciate any help that can be offered.

Thank you

I couldn’t find any significant reference to this code on the internet.
It’s a rather vague sounding code, are there any problems with your engine?

Thank you for your reply.

I am at presently scanning the Internet for any references to this code and how to decipher it.

Long running problems - since MOT time when I had underside of car washed, the engine has been misfiring. I have checked the looms and the coils but cannot find anything obvious.

I bought a ODB-II test cable but was unable to get it to function. I have since got a U480 hand-held device that shows no DTC when connected and ignition on. When I start the engine, with it misfiring and read the code I get P1351. This code translates to Ignition Diagnostic Monitor circuit Input fault / Ignition Coil Control Circuit High Voltage.

I don't know where to start to find a solution to this problem.

Any help from any quarter would be appreciated so I can get the car going again. It would give me my freedom instead of asking Her Indoors to run me everywhere.

Thanking you

Hi Tom,
look at this site. Doesn't explain it immediately but gives the option to ask questions.

Let us know what you find.

Hi Paul

Thank you for the information about that site.

I read through the posts and they are about '96 Bronco's. I now know that in the USA the '96 Ford Bronco has a black ICM and you can get an after-market grey ICM to replace it. The car behaves properly with the grey ICM. They are not the same as the grey ICM is not  exactly the same as the black one. The grey one will throw up P1351 & P1359 codes but when the proper black ICM is inserted the codes go away.

I also found out that the cars in USA cannot be showing any codes when they go for their annual test. I imagine it must be something to do with their stringent emissions laws.

Everyday is a school day.

Thanks anyway

Yes, I came up with the same re the grey box. Trouble with searching for P1351 is a lot of the hits are for threads that have a complete list of codes including yours, but nothing of relevance to your code in the thread.

The only others I came across were a diesel problem and a chevy one.

You need to be wary of any advice for other cars, but I suppose the Chevy one might be worth looking into with regard the “voltage to the ignition control circuit”:

Hi Tompion

I spent the whole day searching and reading websites. As stated above the majority of sites are just a listing of the codes.

I think I will start tomorrow and pull the engine loom out and strip it back to check the wiring. It is about the only place that could be harbouring a fault. This problem only arose after the car was power washed and water got in and around the engine bay.

I will report back on my findings but if someone comes up with another suggestion, I'm willing to listen.

Thanking you
