Please may I have advice on OBD 2  Readouts

Following a round trip from Chard to Heathrow in "The Beast," returning a MPG of 21.6 I did an OBD 2 Alex Pepper check. I should mention that on a trip like that I would expect almost 28MPG. Also the throttle felt heavier than normal, otherwise everything else was fine.

Codes:   P0138 - OSCHV (B1S2 high voltage)

  P0161 - OSHC (B2S2 Sensor heater)

      P1152 -  LOHO2S21SIS - SIR Lack of HO2S21 switches - Sensor indicates rich (see P219Cool

And now for my other Cossie.

Codes:    PO138 - Bank 1 sen 2 - Circuit high Voltage.

P1401 - EGR high input. I disconected this years ago.

  P1131 - Lack of HO2S11 switches - Sensor indicates lean (seeP2195)

This Scorp is returning 20.1mpg just driving around here - does she need a pre cat Sensor?

Thank you for your time and expert advice.

Hi Mike,
here's some info I've gleaned over the years:

Lack of switching could be caused by a vacuum leak, a faulty fuel injector, or a lazy (or slow) O-2 sensor. If both, P1131 and P1151 trouble codes are set at the same time, the problem will most likely be attributed to a vacuum leak past the MAF sensor or something else that would likely affect BOTH banks. If the problem is only causing one code or the other, but NOT both, the problem will most likely be something that would affect one bank, like a bad O-2 sensor or a fuel injector; the most common cause of a single code either the P1131 or P1151 in my experience has been a bad Oxygen sensor.

P1131----- H2Os-11 running lean.
Here are some possible causes:
Dirty or malfunctioning mass air flow sensor;mVacuum hose leaking; Intake manifold gasket leaking air; Low fuel pressure
Dirty fuel injectors.
This is where testing has to be done to pin point the cause without having to replace things you don't need to.

Have you looked at the Graph setting in OBD for the O2 sensors - are they switching as they should be? (Info on this is on the site)

Thank you very much Paul for your excellent advice.

I am at present checking all my airways including the sleeves on the Inlet Plenum/s and re-seating them, and not over tightening the Jubilee Clips which I believe can cause the seals to warp slightly thereby letting unmetered air in.....methinks that I have been a bit too exuberant along those lines and not considering what is actually necessary to obtain a proper seal. We will see.

MAFs are clean and working just fine. I am strongly led to believe that it is an O2 Sensor.... really it is a work in progress.

When I can get to do a scan I shall check the Graph setting.

Again, thanks a lot Paul.

Hi People.

Whilst checking the sleeves leading to the Inlet Plenum I removed the sleeve that I have not ever removed -  the one that sits directly to the left of the Resonance Box as you look in the Engine Bay (resembles a concertina) - only to find 2 splits, one on each side where the Jubilee Clips tighten   Undecided.  Plenty of UN-METERED AIR there then!!

As a temporary fix I have seated strategically placed strips of oven foil (won't cook on or damage the sleeve ) between the clips and the sleeve.

So now all I need is a replacement Concertina sleeve.

I have ordered an upstream HO2 sensor and will speak more on that when I get it over the next day or so.  I need to check it out first.  The Co. that I am dealing with have been very helpful and have researched the HO2 Sensor for compatabilaty with the Ford Scorpio 24valve.  Fingers crossed.

Well that's all for now.

Ookay, here is an update on "The Beast."

She drives beautifully, however the MPG is still around 21MPG.

The latests scan returned:

P 0138  Bank 1 Sensor 1
P 1401  DPFE EGR - ( It is not connected)
P1131   LOHO2S11S - Sil sensor indicates lean (see P2195).  Oxygen Sensor output and associated short term fuel trims is 0.095 per cent. lambda.

I then went into the Enhanced mode and got the following:

Oxygen sensor Bank 1 sensor 1 signed Voltage 0.05 upstream V 0.1

PID 159    02S11-FL. Oxygen Sensor Bank 1 Sensor 1 has a failure

PID 424    Output fault detected

PID 427    Heater monitor high

PID 155    0S11 v 0.120-0.171

Huh. You will probably guess from the above that I am not brill at this.  But thanks to this forum I know a few people that are; yippiee  Kiss

My thinking is that it may not be the 02 Sensor except for PID159.

What do you think Scorpions?

Mike

No doubt someone will be along with advice.
If it were me unless it's recently been changed I'd change the bank 1 upstream sensor & see what happens.

I think the codes may all refer to the same sensor but I've not looked it up. They have a built in heater so "Heater monitor high" may well point to the same sensor.

Smiley 28.9mpg! How about that then...That's from Chard to Swindon, Motorway all the way. This is in my wifes red Cossie.  I fitted a new O2 sensor sourced from Gendan in Swansea (no personal connection). Driving round and about the mpg was good but I still had OBD concerns till now. Cool. I'm in Swindon for a few days so can't do a readout as my laptop needs to be plugged into the Mains.

The Beast is on hold at present.

Keep at it Scorpions for when these cars are on form they are just brilliant.

Yup.  Cool. I was so chuffed I took a photo.

Don't know about being "Tangoed," Scorpioed seems more appropriate in my case  Undecided.
