does anyone have the definitive answer to this question how fast can you go on a dual carriageway in a mercedes sprinter van .i mean legally i know what it will do illegally ,is it restricted to 60mph or can it go 70 mph like say a astra or escort van ,i have asked a cuople of police officers who were not sure ,tried a guy in a road safety camera van ,he wasnt to sure either in fact he was to busy catching  hardened criminals to chat !!! me bitter surely not

Well I've always relied on 70 in mine, but I think that technically, it is 60 Sad (boo... hiss!)
Great news that the old bill don't know either!
But there's always that possibility that you'll get the one bloke who does!  Angry

reason for asking is i have had a ticket saying i was doing 74mph ,i thought it was 70 allowing for slight speedo error i think they are being a bit harsh ,but unless i try a solicitor which i dont want to do because  if it is 60 im banged to rights ,still i suppose driving down a quite  dual carrigeway on the inside lane in wales ,is more dangerous and an outrage to public decency than mugging an old lady or worse ,but as i said before im not bitter and twisted no not at all ,i shall be up before the judge begging to hung drawn and quartered ,for being such a lawless citizen

Hi guys Cheesy,

I have to say, all the Sprinters round my way seem to be doing about 90mph Tongue!

But the highway code says Roll Eyes 60 mph on dual carriageways for goods vehicles up to 7.5 tonnes.(70 for cars)  Undecided(my instant thought is what if you have a van for SDP only?).

Colin,

I owned 5 Merc Vitos and I always told my lads that the limit was 60 in a van despite a dual carriageway at national speed limit. I read a thing in the paper recently that someone had been done for doing 70 in a bigger van on a dual carriageway because the laws states that they can only do 60 like a caravan and car

Hi,

No, the highway code definitely says "up to 7.5 tonne" It is lower for vehicles over 7.5 tonnes (50). I would scan the page, but my scanner is broke Sad.

Seems strange 7.5 tonners can do 70 the same as a car on a motorway though Huh.

No wonder there's confusion Undecided.

I thought white vans were allowed to do the maximum speed available for the van, i have been flashed in my cossie by a white astra van, doing 130ish, with a copy of the sport on the dash and 28 empty fag packets next to it.
