WD40 Scientific Explanation please!

Right, i am fully aware of the fact that WD40 is truly amazing stuff.  It has got me out of a few rusty situations before.  but...

1. How does WD40 act as and electrical insulator?
2. And how does it "drive out" dampness or moisture?

Surely if it is a liquid it has free electron thingies in the outer wotsit and so is free to conduct? or is that just water?

And surely an oil based substance wud seal in the water as it cant absorb it?

Just cos it's a liquid doesn't mean it's a good conductor of electrical  current.  Oil has  very poor conductive qualities ,   that's why it's used in heavy electrical  switching gear as a coolant,  and  in  oil-filled  household heaters.

I was told that the "40" in WD-40 indicated that it lasted for 40 hours.

Didn't sound true to me at the time, and I'm still not convinced.  Undecided

Anyone know what it does mean?

WD40  was given it's name because the WD stands for water displacement and the 40 is the amount of times it took them to get it right.

Happarently it might mean Water Displacement 40th Attempt. That sounds silly to me though. And I didn't think its main job was water displacement.

Hmmmm.

You and your two minutes earlier posting! Grr.

My new lock set came today  Cheesy it's all greasy! Horay!

Anybody know where I can get a light unit to fit inside the light key? I just have an empty key now! No big deal though it'll probably live on a hook in the cupboard anyway.
