I also got them... Its a bolt IN the rubber sealing of the front doors, not a good system....

Hi Derek.

My car came with a roof rack, so i've taken these pictures for you..

I don't know if you're supposed to cut the seal away like my previous owner did, but it hasn't affected my sealing/drainage.

on the saloons there should be some premarked places where the rubber seal has to be removed. It looks very much like the older Granada roof rack fittings , I still have one of those in the garage... Now that reminds me perhaps I should see if it fits the Scorpio and if so sell it to someone!

Heh that was my plan, but I keep thinking I might need it one day and they're too expensive to buy new! I have a roof rack for a mark two VW Polo too.. that really should go. Oh the junk.

The Scorp is down at the garage having the gearbox oil done, horah!

Thanks for the pictures most helpfull.
I have just had another look at the car for the holes.
with a little gental pulling of the rubber around the door.
I could see the sheath covering the hole, blending in with the paintwork. Obviously a virgin (never been touched). At first I didnt notice the sheath as it had been sprayed over when they made it hopefully.

Baz
Behind the rubber seal in the door at the top.
There is a special kind of seal its only paper thin it crinckles when i touch it.
I just need to poke my finger in. To break this seal. The seal is the exact match of the car. Same paint thats why I couldnt see it in the first place. I could see the rubber wich had to be poked through then directly under that was the hole with its seal.
All the holes in all the doors are the same.
Like I said its nothing I could just push my finger through it. Its only paper thin like celothene.
Regards..

I just remembered.. I must warn you. My scorp was used by some builder types instead of an escort van. Consequently they surely must have had heavy timber on the roof rack and as a result I have four indents where the rack feet sat... not attractive. So take it easy with the weight! Or put large slabs of heavy duty rubber under the feet. That might do it.

Hi David nice tip.
I do have plenty of rubber on the feet including extra rubbers off another set of roof racks.
As I have canoes and they can get pulled about a little in the wind so everythings nice and tight but the roof is well protected on under the feet too.
regards..
