Hi all i am considering getting rid of my 24v est and replacing it with a smaller one ,due to work role changing slightly ,i cannot justify the costs in running the 24v or indeed pass it on to customers ,si im thinking it will have to go ,and im seriously considering either a mondeo or possibly the V40 volvo ,i would like to know if anybody has experience of either of these fuel consumption reliability etc ,particulary the 1.8 or 2.0 petrol, the problem with the mondeo is i keep going to look at 2.5 v6 ones and i really shoundmnt let the heart rule the head cheers Colin

I agree Nick, I run a 1999 2.0 zetec estate as my work car and I used to have a 1.8 and the difference in smoothness and power is very apparent. Appears to give good MPG as long as I dont try and pretend I am in my cossie! Funnily enough I was looking to get a 24v estate as a work car but could not find a decent one and ended up with the Mondeo - Fancy a swop? Nick

I asked the lady of the house and I have a gut feeling that what she was getting at is that if I have two cossies then I will be a single man again - Im not sure how much time I have to make my mind up! Nick

It cant all be good as my business partner has just seperated from his wife and bought himself a vectra 2.5 v6 - now all I hear from him is "can mine do this" and how quick does yours get to (insert speed)mph" If he isnt careful one of these days I will take up his challenge of putting our cars head to head but I would hate to kick a man when he is down! I know what I'd rather have Reasons 1) Running costs - Cossie is by far the cheaper of the two (Broken timing chains inclusive) 2) Noise - With one you can turn it on and off with your right foot... with the other you just have to breathe and it can take weeks before it quietens down. 3) No I'm stopping before I get carried away! The Mondeo is fine but deadly dull and drab , hasn't the toys and gizmo's that even a basic Scorp has, and it's ( SPIT !!) front wheel drive.

He must be worried Paul as he told me yesterday that he had fitted an induction kit and a superchip - and then he said if he beat me it would probably because of the weight difference between our cars as mine had a lot more gadgets - I think there might have been a compliment in there somewhere Nick

Thats not all - you want to see him drive, I think my mum drives better than him! I think he and his vectra are well suited to each other. So the challenge could be my mum, driving my cossie, against him and his vectra if it happens I will video it for you all to watch. Nick

well i havent decided yet but i took a very basic v40 out yesterday ,i allways like to test the basic ones first before i look at the model i want ,it had no aircon, sunroof cd etc ,but it drove very well and was surprisingly comfortable ,so i have to be honest and say i may well be looking for a v40 possibly the diesel with all the toys ,but there is no rush as such so i will see how it goes ,having said that i also had a look at v70 AWD ,but walked away from a test drive i really need a smaller car ,and the smallest car i have had for a few years was a 2.8 sierra ,just got to get used to idea of downgrading
