 Huh Any ideas please anybody?

When I access this website on my home computer, the site navigation buttons down the left hand side are missing from the display, although I am sure they were present on the same machine previously.

My computer at work however displays all the buttons on each of the pages correctly.

Does anyone have any idea why this is pleaseHuh

Is that part of the screen showing with the buttons missing or is the whole side missing?

This problem has come up before but I'm not sure if a solution was ever found. See this thread..
http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=news;action=disp lay;num=1083919652;start=
There is a school of thought that it was some quirk of the Norton suite of security applications, or that you need an update to Java. I haven't seen the problem at all on any computer I use, do you just not see anything down the left side or do you see little boxes with red x in them?
In the first instance I would try doing a forced refresh of your browser cache to see if that helps, then update Java and maybe disable any Norton stuff.

forced refresh =ctrl +F5

BTW, site admins, how are the buttons coded? Are they just standard two state gif images, Java buttons or dhtml?

Thanks for your comments Chaps.

Vulcan - I looked at the other thread - obviously It seems I am not the only one to have had a problem with this. I tried, Alt F5 but no success.

Highlander - Not all the left hand side is missing - just the buttons, the "last updated" details and the "How to support this website" details are all still there.

Referring to the security system in use, I have Norton on the problem machine and Macafee on the one at work which is OK. Huh

It looks like this could be a Norton problem, on my new laptop ( with up to date Java & Norton ) I have no navigation buttons even if I switch off Internet Security. On my PC ( with no Norton ) the buttons are visible.

I used to have this problem too.

One of my mates, who sorts my computer problems, says that the MS firewall on Windows XP (SP2) has a compatibility problem with Norton and he told me to bin Norton in favour of AVG Free from Grisoft.com.

Don't know if my mate is right - but it now works for me.

What Vulcan said. We have Norton Anti Virus on one machine and Mcaffee on another. This machine with Norton won't display the buttons until Norton has been deactivated, then all is fine. We've got up to date java and all the rest. The other comp is fine. Very annoying!

AngryVery annoying it certainly is Dave - your experience is the same as mine.

Still at least its pretty obvious what the cause is - shame really, I've always gone with Norton as it's a continual reminder of those good old motorcycling days of yesteryear....... aah memories.

I'll have to decide now the best course of action.

Once again thanks to each of you for your input!

I ALWAYS uncheck enable third party browser extensions. Call it my paranoia but leaving this ticked allows all those nasty search bars etc to install themselves under your address bar.

Restore defaults is a double edged sword really... if you have customised any of your browser settings this will effectively undo all that and set the browser back to what Mr Gates and crew think is the best settings. Maybe they are or maybe not... I tend to change loads of stuff so the defaults wouldn't work for me.

Could always try a different browser.. Opera, Firefox or the like...
