Replacement For The Scorpio---eventually

I know its some way off, but it will happen.

The question is what do I replace the 2 Scorpios with, one a 98,2.3 estate ultima and one a 98, 24v Ghia.

Looking around and at the prices I paid 3 years ago what is a man to buy.

I have a hankering for an Audi A8 Sport, older one though a 99-2000 for about the same as I paid for the Scor.

Or do I stay loyal to Ford and get a Mondeo, new shape, 2.5.

I dont know at all, I am 6ft 2in and not small framed, 20 stone, so I need something with space, but i am only 37 so im to young for a Jag, so where do I go.

I am so jealous of Danny R and Steve in the big old US of A as the choice is vast, big, comfy , thirst, barge, ten a penny.

Well come on guys, what we gonna do.

PS dont worry Snoopy the cop car is going no where yet Grin

Don't like the mondeo driving position, but that is a personal thing. Had one on test for a cou;le of weeks went to Scotland in it did 1800 miles ( thanks mr Ford) and was the most uncomfortable drive I have ever had, and your are bigger than me! Grin

Take a test drive of a SEAT Ahambra 1.9 TDi SE 115/130 bhp.

Pulls like a train to 116 mph, loads of low-down torque, 6 gears, 43/55 mpg, sports suspension, solid VW mechanicals and excellent build quality, really nimble, flies round corners and has awesome brakes.

Only 20 stone? Loads of room for expansion too!

I guarantee you'll be impressed with how well it drives.

I know i drove a galaxy when they 1st came out, play off off final, wembley, against Charlton, 4-4 after extra time then we lose on penalties, anyway Im getting sidetracked.

Used a V6 Galaxy to go there and back, mega comfy, but I hate to see people taking 1 kid to school in some chieftan tank, just so little timmy is safe.

There is only Sue, 8 Stone dripping wet, & me, sometimes the dog, small border collie.

had a go in my brother in laws new car, a nice Audi Estate, had a funny badge on it though some Rs stuff, but hey , what a quick shopping cart.
Only trouble, cheapest I can find is about £20K over my limit.

Did see a poor mans choice, SKODA Octavia RS, but the badge kicks it into touch,

Ah well, keep looking.

he Vw/Galaxy/Alhambra are are the same vehicles with minor cosmetic changes. I had a 53 plate Galaxy and went to Glasgow for a works convention. Itwas the 115 BHP TDIC and was lovely. I would imagine they all drive the same

Tank? Alhambra's, Galaxy's and Sharan's are only the same length as  Mk1/2 Mondeo estates!

IMO a very good choice, good bargains to be had....

or a 130bhp diesel auto estate, will pull like a train!........

No no no no no!
Go to Ford. Ask for a new Scorpio.
Don't leave until they give you one.

You're welcome.

You are never too young for a Jaguar, I bought my first aged 23 ( my first ever car ) and within 2 years had 5. If I could get out of one, I would use one now.

Ok Guys, I will go with Aardvark on this one, the Alhambra, Galaxy and Sharan are actually slightly shorter than a Mondeo, all three come out of the Palmela plant in Portugal and are on borrowed time as new models in system to replace them, so that should be good for price/depreciation.

The 130 TDi with Tiptronic and cruise is a really good all rounder and you can still pick up 2.8 4x4s.

Had an Alhambra for some work related stuff 18 months ago and was getting 36 -39mpg on diesel zipping up and down the M1  Grin

Audi's rock, tho i found the 4.2 A8 not as nice as an E320 Merc. And,as mercs underwent several facelifts over the last decade, you can find pleny of reasonable priced e-class and s-classes around. Plenty of room  and plenty of grunt.

Oui I did seriously fancy an E class before the scorp. I don't know what put me off.. I suppose I couldn't afford one. Ah.

Ok. Personally, the car I want after the scorpio (when it finally dies, and is dead, and all scorpios have died out in a mass death scene) is the VW Passat 4.0 W8. Have a look at them.. and be stunned!

Probably not as good as the Audi but they're the same shape and size as the big Ford. And maybe we could get the body panels to sort of fit............

Well, I reckon on a S type Jag, E class Merc or a Lexus....but its gonna be a few years yet before I'm even looking.....

It's a pity the new cars don't have proper names though...I mean what sort of name is 'S Type' 'E Class' etc....Scorpio, there's a proper car name  Grin Grin

bought my Scorpio from my business partner who went for the 3.0 S type Jag 50k, he spent £1200.00 in the first year on new hubs, water reservoir etc, his stepson bought the same model & as had same work done to his, business partner bought then sold it & bought a e200 Merc kompressor (no problems so far)he likes it a lot better

Hey Dazzer,

With reliability and bills like that it looks like the S Type could be a worthy successor to the Scorp!! Grin Grin
